Zmiana

Jak się czujesz w lesie? Czy słońce delikatnie przesącza się przez korony drzew, a wiatr porusza liśćmi ponad twoją głową? Może się to wydawać

w danym momencie najbardziej dynamicznym procesem, którego doświadczasz w lesie. Nie widzisz jednak szeregu innych wydarzeń, które dzieją się poza twoimi oczami. Las wydaje się spokojnym, wręcz statecznym miejscem.
Nic bardziej mylnego. Jesteś w samym środku zmian!

Oprócz zmian, które zachodzą w ciągu doby (np. procesy fotosyntezy) czy
w ciągu miesięcy (np. owocowanie lub opadanie liści), dzieją się tutaj także wydarzenia, których efekty dostrzeżemy w skali lat. Na pewno jednak wydarzy się to za naszego życia! Zmienia się klimat. Możemy zmierzyć zmiany temperatury, zanikanie powierzchni lodowców, czy doświadczyć gwałtownych zjawisk atmosferycznych. Jaki ma to związek z tym lasem, w którym teraz jesteś?

Nowe warunki klimatyczne sprawiają, że niektóre gatunki drzew będą sobie radziły gorzej, a inne lepiej. Część z nich będzie bardziej podatna na choroby, część natomiast świetnie się przystosuje do tej zmiany. Niektóre gatunki ptaków coraz częściej przestają migrować, bo zimy są na tyle łagodne, że są w stanie przeżyć je tutaj. Pojawiają się takie gatunki zwierząt, które jeszcze kilkanaście lat temu obserwowaliśmy

w południowej Europie.

To wszystko dzieje się na naszych oczach i wiedza dotycząca przyrody, którą zdobywaliśmy kilkanaście lat temu wymaga już weryfikacji. Jedyną rzeczą, której możemy być pewni, jest zmiana. A Ty możesz obserwować ją z bliska.

Change

How do you feel in the forest? Is the sun gently filtering through the treetops and the wind moving the leaves above your head? This may seem like the most dynamic process you are experiencing in the forest at the moment. However, you do not see a number of other events that are happening behind the scenes. The forest seems like a calm, even sedate place. Nothing could be further from the truth. You are in the very centre of change!
 

In addition to changes that occur within a day (e.g. photosynthesis) or within months (e.g. fruiting or leaf fall), there are also events happening here whose effects we will see over the years. But it will definitely happen in our lifetime! The climate is changing. We can measure temperature changes, the disappearance of glaciers, or experience violent atmospheric phenomena. What does this have to do with the forest you are now in?
 

The new climatic conditions mean that some tree species will fare worse, while others will fare better. Some will be more susceptible to disease, while others will adapt well to the change. Some species of birds are increasingly ceasing to migrate because winters are mild enough for them to survive here. Species are appearing that we would have observed in southern Europe just a few decades ago.
 

All of this is happening right in front of our eyes and the knowledge about nature that we acquired a few decades ago is already in need of revision. The only thing we can be sure of is change. And you can experience it up close.
