Tworzenie

Jakie obrazy pojawią się w wyszukiwarce internetowej, kiedy wpiszemy w nią słowo "las"? Sprawdź to samodzielnie! Jest stały zestaw elementów, które z tym słowem się nam kojarzą. Czasem potrzeba dziecka, żeby zadało pytania, które pozwolą nam spojrzeć na tę przestrzeń w inny sposób. "Czemu tu jest zimniej niż na łące?", "Skąd się wzięła ziemia pod naszymi stopami?", "Gdzie schowała się woda z deszczu?"

Pobądźmy z tymi pytaniami przez chwilę. Dobrze, że jesteśmy w nimi właśnie tutaj, w środku lasu. Bo tutaj dzieją się rzeczy, które uważamy za tak oczywiste, że już od dawna się o nie pytamy. Tymczasem las dostarcza światu tzw. usług ekosystemowych. Oznacza to, że jesteś właśnie w miejscu, w którym tworzy się gleba, jest oczyszczane powietrze, następuje obieg pierwiastków, regulowany jest klimat i dzieje się jeszcze mnóstwo innych rzeczy, które służą wspólnemu dobru.

Nie wygląda to jak fabryka. Nie ma linii montażowej, nie ma zespołu pracowników ani maszyn. Pewnie dlatego nie zdajemy sobie sprawy, jak ważne procesy zachodzą w lesie nieustannie wokół nas. A przecież jesteś teraz

w samym środku tej historii. Właśnie tutaj tworzą się usługi ekosystemowe.

What images will appear in a web browser when we type in the word ‘forest’? Find out for yourself! There is a fixed set of elements that we associate with this word. Sometimes it takes a child to ask questions that allow us to look at this space in a different way. ‘Why is it colder here than in the meadow?’, “Where did the earth under our feet come from?”, ’Where has all the rainwater gone?’
 

Let’s dwell on these questions for a moment. It’s good that we are asking them here, in the middle of the forest. Because things are happening here that are so obvious to us that we have long since stopped asking questions about them. Meanwhile, the forest provides the world with so-called ecosystem services. This means that you are in a place where soil is formed, air is purified, elements are recycled, our climate is regulated and many other things that serve the common good are happening.
 

It doesn’t look like a factory. There is no assembly line, no team of workers or machines. Perhaps that is why we do not realise how important the processes taking place in the forest are, constantly happening around us. And yet you are now right in the middle of this story. This is where ecosystem services are created. What would happen if this place were to disappear?
